For more than half a century, the Racine Community Foundation (RCF) has played that role in Racine County—serving as a connector, a resource, and a steady source of support for the organizations that shape community life. Its long-standing partnership with the Racine Art Museum (RAM) reflects how that commitment translates into meaningful, lasting impact.
Over more than two decades, RCF has supported RAM through grants that expand access to the arts while preserving and celebrating cultural heritage. Since 2001, the Foundation has awarded more than 20 grants supporting community outreach initiatives, exhibitions, and specialized programs. These investments reflect a shared belief that the arts are essential to a vibrant community—creating opportunities for connection, creativity, and lifelong learning.
One of the most impactful examples is SPARK!, RAM’s program for individuals experiencing memory loss and their care partners. Through guided, hands-on art experiences, SPARK! fosters connection, expression, and engagement in an inclusive and welcoming environment. RCF’s support of this program underscores its broader commitment to ensuring that cultural experiences remain accessible and responsive to the needs of all community members.
RCF has also played an important role in advancing exhibitions that highlight Racine’s cultural identity and regional heritage. Through funds such as the Walter S. Smolenski, Jr. and Sr. Polish History and Culture Fund, the Foundation has supported exhibitions exploring Polish art and traditions—an important part of the region’s history. Recent projects include Collection Focus: Polish Fiber (2025) and Cut It Out: Papercutting Traditions and Beyond (2026), both of which bring together historic craft and contemporary practice, connecting audiences across generations while underscoring the enduring relevance of handwork.
While its impact at RAM is significant, it represents just one facet of RCF’s broader commitment. With an endowment exceeding $90 million, the Foundation distributes more than $3.5 million annually to nonprofits and students throughout Racine County. This model of endowed giving ensures that support remains consistent and sustainable, providing resources not only for today but for generations to come.
Central to this approach is a focus on flexibility and trust. Under the leadership of President & CEO Liz Powell, RCF prioritizes unrestricted funding—support that allows organizations to maintain operations, invest in staff, and respond to changing needs.
