About the artwork.
Ceramic artist Esther Shimazu is best known for her figurative, hand-built sculptures which typically depict bald, nude women. Finding inspiration in her Japanese heritage, Shimazu chooses to focus on creating depictions of Asian women and sometimes incorporates cultural elements such as folding fans, or in the case of Y Chromosome Pinchpot, a decorative ceramic vessel.
