About the artwork.

Described as “one of the best known artists from Wisconsin in contemporary times,” John Wilde combined his interests in the fantastical and art historical, with his interests in nature—flora and fauna, vegetables, animals, birds, human beings, bones, etc. These subjects were articulated as portraits, landscapes, narrative scenes, and still lives. His work—exemplified here by Wildeworld II—could merge a more classical art historical treatment with a very “Wilde-ian” approach.
