About the artwork.

For decades, Olga de Amaral has rooted her artistic practice in the concept of place—specifically, the cultural, social, and natural landscapes of her home, Colombia. De Amaral has gained international recognition for large-scale works that represent grand vistas and embody metaphors. In the 1970s, she created works like Vestidura de Calicanto when artists were pulling textiles—like other materials associated with craft—away from concepts of function and embracing their potential as sculptural materials.
