About the artwork.
Inspired by events and observations from their personal lives, the wife and husband team of Susan Shie and James Acord craft lively quilts that combine text, fabric, thread, paint, and found objects. Many works read like diary “pages”– The Lost and Found, for example, has multiple date entries and is identified at the top as “Jan. 20, 1988.” Found eyeglasses, appliquéd elements, and leather insect embellishments all add to a narrative about a trip to New York City.
