About the artwork.

Marva Lee Pitchford-Jolly’s interest in ceramics began as a hobby. After she lost her job in healthcare due to funding cuts, Pitchford-Jolly was offered a part-time position at Chicago State University teaching ceramics. About her most well-known type of work, narrative vessels or “story pots” such as Sunday Baptism, she stated, “I use clay as a canvas, and I taught myself to draw on clay… I could write my stories on these pots.”
