About the artwork.
A student of Harvey Littleton and Don Reitz, multi-media artist James L. Tanner is best known for his ceramic work. Faces were Tanner’s preferred subject matter, as seen in Smiling Mercenary, pulling inspiration from African masks, his relatives, and those that were close to him during his childhood in Florida.
