Scat Series #3

A collector of the objects he paints, Manuel Hughes realistically captures ordinary and mundane objects set against non-descript backgrounds, as seen in Scat Series #3. This type of presentation pushes the viewer to consider each item’s unique personality. In this particular work, Hughes has highlighted social issues by painting metal signs with the words, “African-American, “Black,” and “Colored Women.”
