About the artwork.

Acclaimed fiber artist Kiyomi Iwata uses her upbringing in Japan as a resource for her work, stating: “I explore the boundaries of East and West through absence and presence, void and volume.” Her preference in materials— metal leaf, silk organza, and kibiso—reference her upbringing in Japan, and she uses them to create loosely structured volumetric shapes that poetically evoke elements of the natural world, such as in Red Torso Three.
