About the artwork.

Pioneering in an area of contemporary craft that has historically been male-dominated, Robyn Horn manipulates wood into abstracted sculpture. After turning vessels for a time, Horn moved toward sculptural series that allow her to work with wood in expansive ways, including sculpting with a chainsaw. This work, Pierced Geode #453, is from an early series in which she activated the form of a geode by combining contrasting textures, colors, and angles.
