Panagea (Neckpiece)

Tanya Crane’s artwork metaphorically embodies the many layers of human existence—specifically, history, race, class and culture. Drawing from her biracial heritage, Crane uses community and inclusiveness to diversify and expand ideas, understandings, and codifications. In her work Pangea—the name of a supercontinent that existed on Earth millions of years ago—Crane references a massive land mass that shifted into smaller parts, perhaps to allude to the interrelationship between peoples, places, and cultures.
