About the artwork.

Born in Japan, Masami Teraoka made a name for himself with provocative watercolors, prints, and paintings that reflect his interest in Eastern and Western culture. For decades, he adopted a visual language that closely resembled Japanese Ukiyo-e paintings—“pictures of the floating world”—and prints as he explored fantasy, history, politics, and society. Teraoka combines a Ukiyo-e aesthetic with situations, fashions, and objects that reflect a contemporary time, as seen in Namiyo at Hanauma Bay.
