About the artwork.
Frances and Michael Higgins reinvigorated the ancient practice of glass fusing in the late 1940s. While they did create work individually, they often collaborated on functional pieces such as this lamp. Frances tended to favor a “drawn” technique with designs created in enamel. Michael would often piece together a layout of colors and shapes to form an abstract or figural design.
