About the artwork.

Known for textiles that incorporate her adaptation of the Japanese shibori technique, Ana Lisa Hedstrom creates art to wear as well as wall hangings. Shibori techniques include manipulating fabric before dying. Hedstrom dyes the fabric, cuts, and folds it – her process is described as a “conversation” with traditional techniques. Coats, such as this one, with the use of dyed fabric to create more complex patterns, reflect her willingness to experiment with design, pattern, and texture.
