About the artwork.
Patty Cokus creates jewelry that sometimes incorporates unexpected materials. Each of the three Cardiovascular Brooches in RAM’s collection incorporate ephemeral substances, such as aspirin powder, salted butter, wine, and olive oil, contained within a thin glass rod. The butter and wine look like blood—a fact that not only visually suggests a relationship to the heart but also connects back to substances that are associated with the health––good or bad––of the human body.
