About the artwork.

Employing a bold style based on cartoons, Japanese aesthetics, and pop culture iconography, John Cederquist turns chair backs and cabinet doors, such as those of Bluto’s Diner, into fabrics, water, and self-referential illusions. Cederquist developed his distinct aesthetic using a style of marquetry—where veneers, resins, stains, and shaped wood components are pieced and inlaid, almost like a puzzle.
