About the artwork.

Embroidery artist Cindy Hickok uses her needle to “paint” in the same way as so-called “master” painters. Hickok renders characters from well-known works of art, resituating them in different contexts where they are engaged in social interactions with each other. In At Cézanne’s Place, a group of art historical subjects gather around a table full of fruit—a reference to one of Cézanne’s preferred subject matters.
